Richard Storey

Richard Storey is a lawyer educated in both finance and law.
Richard holds a degree in economics from Simon Fraser University, an MBA from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand (a joint program of the Kellogg School at Northwestern University in Chicago and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania), and a law degree from Cambridge University in England. In addition, he has an MA (Cantab) from Cambridge University.
Law is Richard’s second career; early on, he worked with real estate syndications and securities. For 12 years, beginning in 1994, just prior to his law studies, Richard worked in the world of financial derivatives (futures, forwards, options, swaps etc.) for Refco Group and Man Financial. In that role he traded derivatives and managed risk for large Canadian and U.S. corporations. Richard’s also taught market risk management and the prudent use of derivative contracts to members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Since entering the legal profession Richard has worked in and litigated criminal matters as Crown Counsel; he also litigated matters in finance, family, real estate, and estates. He has maintained his knowledge base in risk management while gaining invaluable litigation experience. The fit works: combine the various areas of law with complex finance; and, if necessary, litigate.
Client matters are not abstractions or theory; having operated in the trenches, Richard understands real world risk and concomitant legal issues. The result is a diverse practice. Richard litigates the traditional areas of law and has a deep and practical understanding of complex finance and securities.
Richard has played several sports. He played varsity soccer for Simon Fraser and for Northwestern University in the MBA league. He is an active tennis player with a membership at Vancouver Lawn and Tennis club. At the 1999 U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York, as a spectator, Storey hit a tennis serve at 150 mph. According to the records in 1999 this was a human first. Storey regularly lift weights. Travelling, the Arts, and philosophy keep the program in balance.
